Event & Operations Manager for the International North West 200

Hi I’m Fergus Mackay and I’ve recently joined the International North West 200 team as the Event & Operations Manager based in the NW200’s Coleraine offices.

Prior to this post I was employed for over 20 years in the Local Government sector within the Environmental Health profession specialising in Licensing and Regulatory work. Working for that period as a regulator was extremely rewarding, but the move to a more commercially focused role has presented a whole new challenge and one that I am relishing with exciting new experiences every day.

With the 2016 NW200 only weeks away, we are currently very busy organising the delivery of this year’s North West 200, which is extremely reliant upon effective team working and communication when delivering such a huge event through a dedicated volunteer team of over 800 personnel.

As the North West 200 is now in its 87th year there is obviously a lot of history with the event and with that comes a huge responsibility to ensure that the event continues to go from strength to strength and that ethos is very much enshrined within the culture of the Coleraine & District Motor Club Ltd. as the organising body.

We are delighted to again be supported this year by Vauxhall as our title sponsors with a number of changes planned for this year’s NW200 focussing upon improved communications with our audience and competitors. Other planned improvements will be implemented to improve the efficiency of the race programme and new additions such as a themed sports cafe will be a new addition to the paddock area.

On a personal level, I have enjoyed a very warm welcome into the NW200 family and have received huge support in getting up to speed with the event. This opportunity became available to me through the offices of Riada Resourcing who were extremely helpful in coordinating the selection process and overseeing the interview process.
