The National minimum wage increases soon, are you ready?
You could be forgiven for not expecting this rise, with all the publicity around the National Living Wage, companies could get caught out.
Every year in August, Riada gets ready for the annual National Minimum Wage (NMW), but this year it has proven a little more difficult… there hasn't been as much awareness as in previous years and after some digging we eventually found the details.
It's true this minimum wage affects less people now following the introduction of the National Living Wage (NLW) in April this year which increased the wage for workers over 25 years old.
It’s Riada’s job to know these things and we thought you might like to know too! Find all the details you need to know below
National Minimum Wage Increase
Every October since 1999, the National Minimum Wage (NMW) has updated and 2016 is no different. Following this year the rate will then change every April starting April 2017. From the 1st October 2016 the new rates will be:
21 to 24 years old get £6.95 per hour
18 to 20 years old get £5.55 per hour
16 to17 years old get £4 per hour
£3.40 for apprentices under 19 or 19+ who are in the first year of apprenticeship.
Over 25 year olds now reach £7.20 per hour following the National Living Wage introduced in April 2016. Have a look at how much the minimum wage has increased over the years in our interactive National Minimum Wage Chart here
