50p rise on Minimum Wage
From 1st April 2016, over 25 year olds must receive the National Living Wage (NLW) of £7.20 per hour. The government wants to move from a low wage, high tax, high welfare society to a higher wage, lower tax, lower welfare society and the new national living wage is an essential part of this.

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) will still apply for workers aged 24 and under. Since October 2015 this is currently:
£6.70 for over 21’s
£5.30 for 18 to 20 year olds
£3.87 for under 18’s
Apprenticeships
If you are aged 25 or over and not in the first year of an apprenticeship, you will be entitled to the national living wage of £7.20.
All other apprenticeships fall under the NMW of £3.30. This rate is for apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. All other apprentices are entitled to the NMW for their age.
